The 1st Annual Meeting of the Society for Bioacoustics

The 1st Annual Meeting of the Society for Bioacoustics

The 19th Auditory Research Forum (ARF2014) Kitakomatsu, Shiga, Japan, Dec. 13-14, 2014

It’s our pleasure to officially announce that we are going to hold “The first Annual meeting of the Society for Bioacoustics and the 19th Auditory Research Forum (ARF2014)” on December 13 and 14.The Auditory Research Forum (ARF) was founded for creating young competent auditory researchers. The first ARF was held in 1996 at Izu-Nagaoka in Shizuoka prefecture and the ARF 2014 will be the 19th meeting. In 2003 we settled the meeting site at Doshisha Biwako Retreat Center in Kitakomatsu, the north-western part of Lake Biwa. The forum has two major objectives, 1) putting all different research approaches together in the auditory and other research fields and 2) giving students and junior researchers good scientific directions to conduct their research. The poster presentation has been the major style of presentation while the oral presentation has been given by senior researchers for tutorial purpose. However, since year 2006, we started selected contributed oral presentations to encourage students and junior researchers. Every year very active discussion has been made between young and senior participants until midnight or even throughout night. Those who don’t present their studies may also enjoy discussion.

We have big news this year. The ARF 2014 is cosponsored by the Society for Bioacoustics, which was launched in May 2014 as an international academic society for researchers who are working on sound related to animals, e.g., animal hearings, the effects of sounds on animals, and associated behaviors. The purpose of for this society is to contribute to academia through the advancement and dissemination of research. The society also aims to contribute to human welfare and social activity through wide application of knowledge obtained from highly diverse abilities of different animals. The cosponsored meeting surely helps co-advancement of the auditory and bioacoustics research fields.
